Freedom...now?

The question of freedom has alluded the general public these days, whether it's freedom of the press to report the illegal transactions of CIA intelligence officers, the freedom for workers to come across borders into other countries, or freedom to have a piece of bread in Haiti.
That's why I like this album. Max Roach gets his Art Blakey on, and finds himself with a dark and intense mood intended to question the ills of 1960 through shrieks, bangs, and wails.
We Insist! is nice with it. Michael Olatunji on percussion is the perfect compliment to Roach and his rhythm section.

Well, shoot.

In short, here is an ill album:

1. Past, Present, and Future
2. Dissillusioned
3. Another Country
4. Hymn to Mother Earth
5. Mercy (Variation No. 1)
6. I Put a Spell on You
7. Message to Mankind
8. Fuzz Oriental Blues

I think I'm about to get kicked out of my college, so expect more things on here.

Irakere

Here is the first official post.  There is more to come, but for now I'm attempting to put up music on this here shit.
The first is an album I stumbled across a band which I've been meaning to delve more into - Irakere.  They're a Cuban band out of a second generation of North American soul imitators.  This particular album comes out of a concert from Sweeden recorded...I don't know when.  They do a much better job than most American bands at creating funk that is in the pocket while still having ill horn stabs and solos throughout.  It's like Cubanismo meets some Issac Hayes.

Irakere - Live in Sweeden

1. Aguanile Bonkó
2. 15 Minutos
3. Juana 1600
4. Iyá
5. Valle de Picadura
6. Tres Dias

This is a test

Test for the blog, get ready.
